SUMMARY:

The Unicorn Tapestries are a series of early 16th century tapestries depicting the hunt and ultimate capture of a unicorn. This pointillism painting continues the story, showing the unicorn breaking free of its enclosure.

In a nod to the seven tapestries and the millefleur (“thousand flowers”) background style of the original tapestries, there are seven different plants present in the painting, six of which were identified in the originals. Each of the seven chosen plants – daffodil, white campion, pomegranate, thistle, columbine, dandelion, and birds of paradise – represent themes like growth, hope, and freedom.
