SUMMARY:

Series: “Floral Folklore,” combining mythical creatures from around the world with complimentary plants and florals.
Folklore: Phoenix
Flowers: Blue Water Lily, Montpellier Cistus

This drawing features a Phoenix, along with a Blue Water Lily and branches of Montpellier Cistus. Like the Phoenix, which originated in Ancient Egypt, the Blue Water Lily is significant in Egyptian mythology as a representation of the sun and rebirth. The Montpellier Cistus, a type of rockrose which is also native to northern Africa and the mediterranean region, is pyrophylic, which means that germination of its seeds require fire – a bit like the Phoenix itself.
